Portrait Workshop – led by artist Penny Sobr & Dylan Wynn 
A great way to study yourself is to draw your own portrait.
We brought in mirrors for the residents to create self portraits, some drew profiles and some drew their silhouette.
Drawing teaches you to see, to observe beyond what you know, to slow things down.
What makes us up as individuals ? What is our identity ? How do we see ourselves ?
Where are we at present, how do we see our future and our past ?

16/10/2018 – Silhouette Art! @ Jimmy’s

 

Silhouette Profile Workshop – led by artist Penny Sobr & Dylan Wynn for Oblique Arts
Not everyone can draw so we devised this fun interactive method for the guests to be able to draw and play around with their faces and side profiles!
We used the light from our phones to create a shadow of our actual side profile and the guests had real fun tracing the shape of their face or each others onto card.
One guest who had been a reluctant participant finished the session off by telling us how much he’d enjoyed himself!
What makes us up as individuals ? What is our identity ? How do we see ourselves ?
Where are we at present, how do we see our future and our past ?

They Squeezed, tubed, smeared, scraped, squashed & blended paint into art on canvas!

Another full workshop at Jimmy’s Night Shelter this week! Thought we’d try cutting and ripping images into strips and bits to create abstract collages.

Another full workshop at Jimmy’s Night Shelter this week! The collage workshop is so popular so we thought the guests should carry on and try to create their own Utopian World’s out of collage.

Some great results again and some of these will end up in an exhibition that we’re planning very soon to show guests art work from Jimmy’s with a percentage of profits going to this great homeless shelter! Surreal Collage Art Workshop – led by Oblique artist Penny Sobr & Dylan Wynn

It was great to have a full workshop at Jimmy’s Night Shelter last week and the guests  really got stuck into making collage! We supplied some fab vintage magazines, coloured papers & wallpaper books and the marbled paper that we made previously at Jimmy’s really came in handy for adding to these creations.

The inspiration was the surreal art by the Da Da movement of the 1930s …the guests took this idea and created their own movement where one guest created a kind of club flyer and another could be a poster for a Dracular film….whatever comes out on the canvas it creates a feeling of confidence and stimulation in the air!

Sometimes your well planned workshop can get taken in another direction by the participants and if they’re getting something out of it and it creates a positive effect, its best to go with the flow ! … The colourful psychedelic art turned into a kind of Op Art by one very talented guest who does a lot of art already for the community and festivals!
