31/07/2018 – Bleeding Tissue Art @ Jimmy’s

Bleeding Tissue Workshop – led by Oblique artist Penny Sobr & illustrator Daisy Tempest

Love the effect of bleeding tissue which can create a stunning effects on the canvas, the guests really got into playing with this fast effective medium. They created subtle, they created loud..whatever mood, it flowed with their feelings.

Really love one regular’s abstract work, he’s so fast and decisive, he managed to create three pieces in one session! They’ve been through a lot in life and this is a great outlet for them.

17/07/2018 – String Pulling on Canvas @ Jimmy’s

String Pull flow Painting Workshop – led by Oblique artists Penny Sobr & Jordana
Pulling a string dipped in paint across a canvas can make a great piece of abstract art!
This technique allowed the guests from Jimmy’s to let go of tensions and anxieties … dip  drag & run with the string… be free and spontaneous and enjoy the results!! ..hopefully!
This technique can create lily flower shapes like magic but needs to be practised…the guests  just wanted to create wonderful abstract shapes and moods today.

10/07/2018 – Sugar Skulls @ Jimmy’s

Sugar Skulls Workshop – led by Oblique artists Penny Sobr & Dylan Wynn
Sugar Skulls are a traditional folk art from Southern Mexico used to celebrate Day of the Dead. So we thought we’d get the guest’s at Jimmy’s to make sugar skull designs as part of the Mexican family tradition to remember any of their dear, departed loved ones.
We loved the fun results, one guest painted his skull black and gold dripping with compassion, some used collage mixed media and some drew with felt pens.

03/07/2018 – Geometric Art @ Jimmy’s

Geometric Art –  is a form of abstract art based on the use of geometric forms, this kind of design originated from ancient Greece, characterized largely by geometric motifs in vase painting.
This idea is to break up images into geometric shapes and patterns which is probably easier on a computer but we had a go by hand at Jimmy’s this week led by artists Penny Sobr and Dylan Wynn.
The guests found colouring the shapes very therapeutic which is a very satisfying outcome!

26/06/2018 – Creating Masks @ Jimmy’s

This week we had great fun creating masks and being quite theatrical at Jimmy’s night shelter with artist’s Penny Sobr & Dylan Wynn. We wondered whether they’d think this was too child like but the guests really entered into the spirit of playful art and loosing themselves with the process of being creative…it really made them feel happy which is a wonderful thing in these times !

One autistic guy who felt he wouldn’t be able to participate because if one thing goes wrong he has to start again & again but after a lot of encouragement he had a go and with a bit of helpful guidance he managed to complete his amazing mask to his own delight and the others at Jimmy’s…. tweet tweet !

12/06/2018 – Ink Painting @ Jimmy’s

This week the guests at Jimmy’s played with ink in an art workshop led by Penny Sobr. We had a look at imaginative explosive ink splat illustrations by Ralf Steadman and the watery blurred colourful work by Brian Wildsmith to give inspiration.

One guest had a real feel using ink where he was able to work very quickly to capture the spontaneous image that ink requires!

This week it was off to Australia to try out Aboriginal Dot Painting with Penny Sobr & Dylan Wynn. We think the guests did rather well and seemed to love the results plus one regular had her pet dog helping again…he has such an artistic flair!

You don’t need buy the tools required for this technique because cotton buds are just as good don’t you think…

9/06/2018 – Art in a Van – Ink Illustration!

Oblique Arts Workshop with Beverley Carpenter & Penny Sobr

We love doing art with the traveller children out at Cottenham! We ‘re always given a really enthusiastic welcome of shouting, hand waving & running to get into the van.”What are we doing today!!’…they shout… Well we’re going to draw animals and colour with ink!

Took along a children’s book by Brian Wildsmith which has really fab ink illustrations  to hopefully inspire !!The children created flamingos, frogs, birds, wolves and wolf frogs, butterflies and strange creatures!

The ink we used totally rocks with such intense & vivid colour helping to bring great atmosphere to any sketch!

5/06/2018 – More Landscape Collage @ Jimmy’s

More collages this week with Penny Sobr and Beverley Carpenter from Oblique Arts helping to inspire this weeks guests at Jimmys to create with transparent tissue paper & other mixed media. Its like painting with paper when using coloured tissue! Love it when you overlay different transparent sheets of tissue to create new shades !

Love one woman’s work with ripped up transparent tissue which reminds one of a impressionist painting and she even had her pet dog helping too!
