What is community-based arts practice? How can arts-based practice enable us to create participatory social spaces with ‘hard to reach’ groups? This project set out to enable social work students to develop practical skills through collaboration with arts practitioners. The students planned and facilitated creative workshops in a centre for the homeless and a residential care home for older women. They learned the value of the arts as a tool to create participatory social spaces. These lessons also resulted in a digital tool kit which teaches how students and practitioners can create unique collaborative workshop environments that promote health and wellbeing.
