Beverley Carpenter – Founder, Artist & Coordinator Oblique Arts.

Beverley Carpenter is a founding member of Oblique Arts and has had an extensive career in visual art and performance prior to setting up Oblique Arts in 2007 and registering it as a charity in 2011. She has brought together a diverse range of artists and educators to deliver high quality arts in Cambridgeshire for the wider community. Her speciality is in methodologies of participation and she has worked across Europe in collaboration with musicians, scientists and young people, both in formal and non-formal education. She has a portfolio of work that includes large-scale installation in public buildings internationally and co-written publications. Beverley has held teaching positions and gained a PhD in practice-based fine art. She has trained youth workers in creative methodologies and led youth projects in the UK, which offer non-formal accredited learning opportunities. –  

 

Oblique Arts Officers: 

Penny Sobr – Artist, Illustrator & Designer – Oblique Arts Secretary website

After getting a degree in Illustration and Graphic Design, Penny became a freelance fashion illustrator in her native New Zealand before making the move to the UK. She then spent the next 20 years working as a freelance illustrator for clients such as Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Elizabeth Arden, recognised shops such as Boots and WH Smith, international hotel chains, newspapers and advertising and design companies. Locally, she has currently works for many organisations including creating digital artwork for 10 large lanterns for the Mill Road Lantern Trail & postcards for the project #seeyousoon.

Simon Buchan – Treasurer & Musician

Simon Buchan has brought his unique skills and experience to our charity. Simon is a short course tutor at Cambridge Community Arts specialising in teaching guitar. Simon continues to help develop new projects and opportunities for us.

Karen Kellett – Artist, Illustrator & Chairwoman

Karen Kellet is a local artist living in Barnwell who has an MA in children’s book illustration and facilitates art workshops for local charity ‘Lifecraft’.

Chris Free – Social Media & Marketing Manager website

Chris Free is a designer, songwriter ( EMI Publishing – England In June Productions ) and #creativeengland musician ( There Users  – A Craze – The Sound of Pop Art ) – who has licensed music around the world, designed clothes (Cinema X) that have sold round the world – built websites for clothing labels, musicians and artists – produced brochures, business cards and flyers for events and media campaigns. 

Sibylle Hutter – Artist

Sibylle Hutter also a local artist who has a BA in Sculpture and a MA in communication design. Sibylle works mainly with children. She has been running art workshops in museums, set up various children art clubs and is nowadays teaching conversational German to children through engaging art and craft activities.
